Parya staff, volunteers, clients (i.e. individuals who are registered participants of Parya programs) and class participants (i.e. individuals attending courses at Parya that are run by outside organizations) are a diverse group with different ethnic and cultural backgrounds and values. As such, we believe and support the right for all persons to be treated with respect and dignity.

Any behaviour, which any person might consider inappropriate and in particular racist, discriminatory or harassing is absolutely not permitted. If you feel somebody is behaving this way with you or if you witness this type of behaviour, please report it to your instructor who will in turn report it to Parya staff. We have specific complaint procedures and will follow up on the situation.

Parya’s goal is to provide meaningful and respectful services to our diverse community. We demonstrate our commitment to client service by ensuring us:

• Communicate with our clients and class participants in a pleasant, respectful manner
• Work closely with the broader community in an effort to always try to meet our clients’ goals
• Provide a safe and supportive environment for all clients and class participants
• Deliver our services via a team of highly trained and qualified professionals
• Provide opportunities for our clients and class participants to provide feedback on our services
• Have a formal process for handling client and class participant feedback.

Harassment and Discrimination

Parya believes that every person has the right to live, learn, and work in an environment that treats individuals with equality and respect. We also believe that we must take an active role in eliminating harassment and discrimination by ensuring that all Parya programs are conducted free from discrimination and exhibit fundamental respect for all people.
This will be achieved in two ways:

• By ensuring that our organization’s work is carried out in a way that is free from discrimination and promotes fundamental respect for all people;
• By advocating for systemic and social change.

Harassment and discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, race, ancestry, place of origin, ethnic origin, citizenship, colour, creed, age, marital status, family status or disability is defined in the Human Rights Code as against the law and will not be tolerated. Failure to comply with Human Rights legislation can lead to disciplinary action, up to and including immediate discharge.

Our policy is to promote a discrimination-free environment at Parya by:
• Encouraging, developing and enforcing appropriate discrimination-free values, attitudes and behaviours among all Board members, staff, volunteers and clients of the agency.
• Integrating anti-discriminatory principles into all services to the community.

Our policy applies to everyone associated with Parya including: employees, clients, volunteers, members of the Board of Directors , committee members, instructors and other people who use our space.
