Multicultural Day Event at Parya

Sat, 08/20/2011 - 1:12am -- Sanaz

For the first time in its history, Parya celebrated Multicultural Day on June 27, 2010 as a part of Celebrate Canada Program with co-funding by Department of Canadian Heritage.

The Program took place as follows:

2- PM: announcement of programs followed by the Canadian National Anthem and ey-Iran

2:15-3 PM: speech on “How to Integrate into the Canadian Society?”

3-3:30 PM: Gilaki traditional music (live)

3:30-4 PM: Kurdish traditional music and dance (live)

4-4:30 PM: refreshments and socializing

4:30-5 PM: Turkish traditional music and dance (live)

5-5:15: Closing Remarks

5:15-6:00: refreshments and socializing

The event was very much welcomed by the Iranian-Canadian community especially families with younger children at full capacity (220 people). The program was received to the extent that many more families who wished to participate were unable to do so because of limited capacity. We hope that we will have a bigger event next year, since we are moving to our new and bigger site in September.

We would like to express appreciation to our generous sponsor Mrs. Houri Solaymani, as well as Pars Food, Super Khorak, and Tavazo for their in-kind donations.

It goes without saying that, as usual, our caring volunteers made it possible to have such a successful event.
